Priya was born and grew up in Oxford. She began violin lessons at the age of four, and at nine took up a place at the Yehudi Menuhin School where she studied with David Takeno. Described by The Strad as ‘One of the foremost violinists of her generation’, Priya had the distinction of being chosen as the British representative for the European Concert Halls Organisation ‘Rising Stars’ series in the 1997/98 season. Her year as ECHO ‘Rising Star’ included recitals in Paris, Vienna, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Brussels and her New York début at Carnegie Hall.

She made an extremely successful début with the BBC Symphony Orchestra conducted by Richard Hickox. Recent highlights have included performances of the Sibelius Concerto, the Mendelssohn Concerto, Vaughan Williams’ Lark Ascending with Sinfonia Varsovia (Yan Pascal Tortelier) at Symphony Hall, Birmingham, as a tribute to the late Yehudi Menuhin, and a studio recording of Berlioz Reverie et Caprice with the BBC Concert Orchestra.
